Specialty Class Schedule

Dog training can be fun! Once you have a good obedience foundation it is time to start learning some tricks, playing flyball, dancing with your dog or teaching them to use their noses to track These five week classes improve your partnership and are fun for both you and your dog.

Flyball, Tracking, Treiball and Musical Freestyle are competitive dog sports and with a lot of practice and patience you and your dog can compete or just have fun working togetherSo what are you waiting for? Sign up for a class and start having fun with your dog.

Class Information

Class duration
Six classes (unless otherwise noted) that meet weekly for 50 minutes
Cost
$80.00 plus tax per six week class
Number of students per class
10 maximum (8 SCC, 2 members)
What to bring to class
Treats that are soft, small or easy to break up, and easy for your dog to eat quickly. Your dog in a collar and a 4-6 foot fabric or leather leash(No flexible or chain leashes). Additional equipment may be required and will be discussed at the first class.
What you should wear
Comfortable clothing, tennis shoes (please no sandals or flip flops).
Testing
Students may be tested the first and last night of class to ensure they are in the correct level of training. If a student is not ready for the class they have enrolled in, the instructor will help the student get into the correct class.

Class Registration

Non-Members

  1. Go to the Southeast Community College website
  2. Click on Continuing Education, then click on Register NOW! (towards the bottom of the page)
  3. Type in a keyword (e.g., "obedience")
  4. Check the box next to the class(es) you want to register for and press SUBMIT
  5. Fill in the forms and you're registered!

Available Classes

Musical Freestyle

Prerequisite(s): club membership; Good Dog - Obedience 1 and 2 graduation certficates.

This class will help you learn the fundamentals of the sport of Musical Freestyle. At the end of class you will perform a 30-45 second routine with your dog.

*What the class covers: *Training behaviors (moves), how to combine moves, and how to select music for your routine.

Tricks

Prerequisite(s): Good Dog - Obedience 1 graduation certificate or other beginning obedience or approval of instructor.

The skills you will learn in this class will help you and your dog learn and perform basic tricks.

What the class covers: Points covered are: shake, take a bow, high five, roll over, crawl, and much more.

Flyball

Prerequisite(s): Good Dog - Obedience 1 and 2 graduation certificates; dogs ages 10 months and up.

The skills in this class will teach your dog basic skills needed for the fun game of Flyball Flyball is a relay race for dogs.

*What the class covers: *Ball motivation, hurdles, and ball retrieval from the flyball box. All levels of skill will practice together

The skills in this class will build speed and teamwork This class will help you and your dog prepare for competition. NOTE: The hour (5:30-6:30 PM) before each class is open for Flyball Practice

What the class covers: Speed building, release timing, passing other dogs, competition preparation

Tracking

Prerequisite(s): Dogs must be a minimum of nine months old, Good Dog - Obedience 1 graduation certificate or other beginning obedience or pet manners class.

Tracking is something all breeds of dogs can do, and excel at We just need to show them how to do what comes naturally to them.Whether you go on to achieving your AKC Tracking Titles, or merely have another wonderful skill to practice with your dog, Tracking is a Partnership, and that is what is all about!

This is a 6 week Introductory Tracking class for those who may be interested in pursuing an AKC Tracking Dog Title, TD. We will be working in all kinds of weather condition, terrain, and temperatures.

*What the class covers: *Laying a scent trail and following the scent to find an object or person.

Scent Training 1

*Prerequisite(s): * Obedience Level 1 Certification

Class Description: You've seen the beagles searching luggage for illegal fruit, or the lab searching for drugs? How do they teach that? The answer is in this class. Learn how to tell your dog to hunt for scent. You can also prepare your dog for AKC scentwork trials. Help your dog to become a super sniffer!

Treiball and Advanced Treiball

Prerequisite(s): club membership; dogs ages nine months and up; Good Dog - Obedience 1 graduation certificate or other beginning obedience.

Treibball (pronouced "try-ball") is something all breeds of dogs can do, and excel at The balls have been referred to as "rolling sheep" in recognition that this sport stems from a development for herding dogs without access to regular sheep

It was so much fun, it evolved into a sport on its own Treibball skills include exceptional communication and cooperation as the dog is directed and herds eight balls to a "soccer goal" Some call this sport doggie billiards!

This is a 6 week introductory "test" class for those who may be interested in pursuing Treibball as a sportThis sport has provided improved handling skills and cooperation with your canine partner for other sports as well

Equipment, treats, and dog handling will be all discussed, demonstrated, and practiced on opening class day.

What the class covers: Game rules, building skills at exercise ball herding, making goals and time limits

Scent Training 2

Prerequisite: Scent Training 1

Class Description: Continue to build skills and work with different scents (topics may include birch,anise, cloves, interior, exterior, vehicles and buried). Last class will include searches as done in actual competitions.
